This is the snout
of the Gangotri glacier and the present source of the Bhagirathi river.
It is held in high esteem by the devotees who do not miss the
opportunity to have a holy dip in the bone chilling icy water. The 18 km
distance from Gangotri haste be covered on foot or by ponies. The trek
is easy and many people come back to Gangotri the same day. Porters and
ponies are available for excursions to Gaumukh and other trekking routes
at Gangotri. There is a Tourist Bungalow at Bhojbasa, 14 km from
Gangotri where lodging and other facilities are available.
GAUMUKH
TREK
Ganges
is one of the holiest river in India and its source, a sacred pilgrimage
for devout Hindus. The trek follows the Ganges to its source at Gaumukh,
the snout of river Ganges. Legend is that Goddess Ganga descended here
from heaven after prolonged penance of King Bhagirath. Further up from
Gaumukh is Tapovan , a trekker’s paradise and base for many
challenging mountaineering expeditions.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
- 7 Days
Day 1 : Departure Arrive Rishikesh 230 km/6-7 hr & overnight
stay arranged at hotel with dinner
Day 2 : After Breakfast arrive at Uttarkashi (4100 Ft.) 155km/4-5
hr. Stay at Shikhar Nature Resort with Lunch & dinner.
Day 3 : Breakfast then drive to Gangotri (3040 Mt.) 95 km /3-4
hrs stay arranged at hotel /T.Banglow. Carry Pac Lunch & have dinner
at hotel.
Day 4 : Start 14 km/4-5 hr Trek to Bhojbasa (3658 Mt) along river
Bhagirathi. Pac Lunch for trek & hot dinner at Bhojbasa Camp.
Day 5 : Morning after breakfast begin 3 km/1-2 hrs day return
trek to Gaumukh (3892 Mt.) source of holy Ganges. Lunch & dinner at
the Camp.
Day 6 : Early breakfast & trek back to Gangotri. Arrive and
drive back to Resort, on the way visit Harsil 20 km from Gangotri.
Dinner & overnight stay at Shikhar Nature Resort.
Day 7 : Morning at Leisure. After lunch return journey to Delhi

Uttarkashi is well connected by road 155 km from Rishikesh.Shatabdi
Train has daily morning service to Haridwar (D0710/A1122) & then
take a taxi to Rishikesh 29 kms.From Rishikesh local busesand jeeps are
