A small peaceful
town situated 17 kms from Moodabidri, Karkala is a very famous pilgrim
centre known for its massive monolith of Gomateshwara, which is thronged
by pilgrims from across the country as well.
Karkala is a
centre of effervescent activity where dexterity and commitment combine
to take an unusual form. One can see young zealous sculptors engraving
beautiful figures and bringing stones to life.

Fort: Jamalabad is famous for its fort built by the tiger of Mysore
, Tipu Sultan in 1794. The fort was renamed after his mother, Jamalbee.

Chaturmukha Basti:
It also has a huge Chaturmukha Basti. In recent years Renjal Gopal
Shenoy, the famous sculptor, has left behind a living tradition of the
art of engraving. Statues made here are appreciated the world over and
exported to Japan.
