Spread over an
area of 400 sq. kms near the Nepal border, the little known,
Katarniaghat Sanctuary was established in 1976. It is located in the
Terai area on Indo-Nepal border of Bahraich district. Tiger, leopard,
swamp deer, blackbuck, chital, barking deer, sambar, nilgai, sloth bear
and wild boar are some of the inhabitants of the sanctuary.
THE WILD
POPULATION
The important
species inhabiting the park are leopards, tigers, deer, parlias, bear,
jackals, otters, langoors, monkeys and cheetals. There are many species
of local and migratory birds also. Crocodiles and alligators can be
found in the Girwa River and its tributaries. The wild vegetation
includes saal, asna, sheesham, bel kusum, banyan, semal, khair, kaus and
munj.

the nearest air-strip.
Rail: Bichhiya is
the nearest railhead.
Road:
Katarniaghat is connected by road to various parts of the state,
Bichiyya being the nearest bus station.
