Askot
Sanctuary, established in 1986, is located in the pastoral
surroundings of Indo-Nepal border, in Pithoragarh. Nestled in the
picturesque Kumaon Himalayas, Pithoragarh is often called 'Mini
Kashmir'. Snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, bharal, tahr,
snow cock, monal, chir and koklas, pheasants and chukor are the major
highlights of the sanctuary.
WILD
POPULATION
The park is
rich in various species of captivating flora and fauna. The wild
species of fauna include snow tiger, leopard, bharal, thar, kakar,
black and grey himalayan bear and different types of pheasants and
other birds.
The wild vegetation comprises of kunj, kail, khersu, fir, bhoj patra,
darkunja, raijal etc.

nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun.
Rail: The nearest railhead is Tanakpur, 151 km.
Road: Askot is accessible by road via Tanakpur - Pithoragarh or via
Haldwani - Almora
