Mirik is 52 kms
from Siliguri and 55 kms from the nearest Airfield of Bagdogra. Mirik is
being developed as a new hill station in the mountains. Mirik is
surrounded by tea estates, orange orchards and cardamom plantations.
Mirik has all the facilities to fulfill the needs of a tourist, it is
surrounded by forests, flowers and is a very peaceful place which
attracts the tourists automatically. This fast developing as a tourist
paradise. This place is 5,800 feet above the sea level and has very thin
population of 10,000 people. Mirik has not yet acquired the hustle and
bustle of the a regular hill station and is from pollution. Thus the
little time spend here is enough to refresh you.
The climate of Mirik is very pleasant and the temperature rarely crosses
30 degrees during the summers. But the winters are very cold.
Accommodation in Mirik is good and cheap with hotels concentrated near
the Mirik lake. Mirik lake is one of the spots which attracts tourists
in large numbers. But do not try swimming in the lake because the waste
water from Mirik falls in this lake. Near the lake is a very large, lush
green ground. It is very difficult to find such plain ground in hilly
areas. The Devasthan of Mirik is also very famous among the visitors.
This place five or six temples which are located on the other side of
the lake. Devsthan is located amidst a grove of trees and can only be
reached by crossing the bridge over the Mirik lake.
The Swiss cottages of Mirik are also good place to stay. These are also
called the Motels. One can also enjoy the sunrise from Sunrise point,
which not in Mirik but is located some distance form the place. Not only
Sunrise from the place you can also see the attractive Kanchenjunga
Peaks and enjoy the soothing sight of Himalayas. Mirik is a major orange
producing area in West Bengal and one can either walk or take ponies to
the orange orchards.
